Thoughts Are Powerful

It was a quote I stumbled across from Peace Pilgrim a few years ago that helped changed the direction of my life. The quote is simply this: "If you realized how powerful your thoughts are, you would never think a negative thought." What we decide to think about ourselves, others and the world at large literally shapes the kind of life we experience. Note the emphasis on the word 'decide'. Yes, what we choose to think is purely our decision to make. Whatever it is we are today is a sum total of all the thoughts we entertained in our mind. Everything that we see today started with a thought. All that was ever invented started via the vehicle of an idea. Just like you cannot plant corn and reap potatoes, you cannot foster bad thoughts and have a great life. It's time to start planting the right thoughts that represent the outcomes that we hope for.

I cannot overemphasize how powerful our thoughts are so it's important to take the time to examine them so we can begin to appreciate the amount of control they have over our lives. Author of the bestselling book, "As a Man Thinketh", James Allen teaches that a man's mind can be likened to a garden, which may be intelligently cultivated with good seeds and good crop or left to run wild but whether it is cultivated or neglected, it will always bring forth. Which means we get what we allow ourselves to think regardless of whether we choose to pay attention or not. Just like a master gardener cultivates his land, keeping it free from weeds and growing flowers and fruits he desires, so we must tend to the garden of our minds; taking time to get rid of all wrong, useless and impure thoughts and cultivating right, useful and pure thoughts.

Practicing the art of thought substitution should be second nature to us all. Whenever we find ourselves harboring worthless thoughts, we must immediately replace it with good and worthwhile ones. Important secrets to success include the ability to manage ones thoughts, belief and emotions. We all want better lives. We all want our circumstances to improve. But until we take the time to improve our thought life, no opportunity that comes our way will ever be leveraged to the fullest. We act according to the thoughts we entertain. Great thoughts followed by dedicated actions will always produce great results that helps to move our lives forward.

It's time to stop wishing and start doing. Anything worth accomplishing begins and ends with our thoughts. We make or break our lives by what we permit ourselves to think. It's time to think about what we are thinking about.
