Choose to Grow

Growth has its requirements and its price. It constantly demands change from us. It demands the one thing we are oftentimes unwilling give. Yet, refusing to change and evolve is like an unannounced obituary; like an unofficial death that hasn't been made public.

When we settle into a fixed state of mind, we unconsciously create a feeling of self-imposed entrapment. Change and evolution is freedom; it's joy, nevertheless we do all we can to avoid it. We intentionally keep our lives in a holding pattern while we watch the world pass us by. It takes time to realize that we need to grow and mature and leave all the childish stuff behind. Unfortunately, it may take more time than many of us can afford.

For some reason, we have a tendency to hold onto strategies that have failed to bring us any success and refuse to pick up new ones that will. We appear wedded to dysfunction. We go to ridiculously great lengths to keep things in status quo. Alvin Toffler said it well with this quote: "The illiterate of the 21st century will not be those who cannot read and write, but those who cannot learn, unlearn, and relearn."

If you want freedom, joy and peace, embrace change. Step away from the status quo. Never accept mediocrity. Take a risk. Choose to grow.
